Peter Mannella served as the Executive Director of the 600-member New York Association for Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) for 23+ years and retired this past September. He continues to serve as their legislative representative, a role he’s had since 1995. As NYAPT legislative representative, Peter successfully lobbied for the enactment of more than 30 laws including those relating to advertising on school buses, training funds for school bus drivers, training related to special needs students, prohibiting standees on school buses, prevention of illegal passing of school buses, and several technology and school bus equipment laws.
Peter brings a long career in public policy and public service to bear on issues related to school bus safety and is intent on helping the public understand what we do in school transportation as well as to have the school bus community better appreciate the concerns of parents and policy makers. Peter currently serves as NAPT’s Public Policy Committee Chair and is NAPT’s former Region 1 Director. He also is the President of his own firm, Policy Matters.
